Oscar Night in Moscow and Scandinavian Dinner

1,5 weeks to go, one more post of the 'Oscar Night':

It was the last weekend for many students so some had a great idea: They decided to organise a Oscar Night: Everybody got a sheet of paper with Multiple-Choice questions about different categories: For example about the best flirter, the best seducer, the messiest room, etc.

On that night also the Scandinavian Dinner was planed for. The room was nicely decorated. Unfortunately, that didn't compensate the, let's say, not too special food of that evening ;)

As usual. A small little presentation of the country, which was Sweden and Denmark, by the way ;)

Same as, the Austrians: They were singing for us. It was a kind of special day in sweden and Denmark at that day so they chose this program.

As always, we  had to wait at the floor, to enter the kitchen were the buffet was.

The Swedes...

After that, the preparations for the Oscar Night began. Everybody had to leave the common room while everybody was waiting outside. Some of the furniture was moved out, and Alcohol was brought there.

Our showmaster Davor and Clement, another member of the Organization Comitee ;)

After some minutes the doors opened again and the party got started.

Almost everybody was there, and it was great.

And that's how it looked like then: Davor was presenting the topic for which we voted. And one of the other people who organised that great night, had to open the envelope where the results where in. Like on a real Oscar night ;)

As some of the topics were not only funny but actualy embarassing, everybody was quite keen on the results.

One of the first winners: The sweetest couple.

Here, the looser, when it came down to flirting this semester in Moscow, was named. Can't remember who it actually became :p

The next category was best dinner and it was not voted by the Multiple choice test but rather by asking 'Who thinks the Finnish Dinner was the best?' , for example, and then by judging it by the loudness of support.

The French and the Austrians had both the loudest support (because the french were by far the biggest group). After that Stephan (from austria, on the left) and Clement (from France) tried to motivate enough (other) people to shout for them.

And it was obvious that it was the Austrians who won that price for the best dinner.

Another great and funny category: Who never cleans the dishes? Philipp? Or the hole French group? Of course this one went for the French.

The most embarassing story which was also decided by who got the loudest support: 4 nominees and those persons, or a friend of them, explained what was so funny about this story. Good one ;)

Miss and Mister Dorm:

Vote for the Champion of the dorm. Again it was Franck (from France) who won a title.

Last but not Least: Favourite Position - Doggy ;)

I would like to pay my respect to everyone who helped organizing this great evening. I guess I will never forget my time in Moscow and this very evening was definately one of the best ones.

Austrian Dinner in Moscow

As my time is almost already over, it's time that I make another update to this blog!
I like to show pictures from our Austrian Dinner in the Dormitory:

As already other countries presented their cuisines (finnish, german, french) we thought we should do that aswell. Of course we dressed up for that ;)

No I don't think I hve to tell anybody that we have made Wiener Schnitzels for our colleagues from the dormitory.

As other Nations have done it before, we also came up with a presentation.
Stefan (left) changed his clothes for that a little bit and talked on Austrian ;) Rainer was holding his laptop that and translated into English.

They talked about how Austrians made Hitler German and Beethoven Austrian. Furthermore, they refered to our immigration problems -  with drunk students that come from Chech Republic like Tomas, my roomate who also studies in Vienna, lol.

We prepared a small buffet, with standard Austrian dishes, Apfelstrudel aswell.

We have also song a song for the others and also wanted them to join us in that of course. Listen to it till second 00:57, then u can see how all the others joined in ;)

By the end of the night, when we already had a lot of Glühwein, all the Austrians got together and song 'I am from Austria'. For Stefan, I think, it was a bit too much i guess ;)

Here is our great performance. We have been working all day so that was like the last special moment we have been waiting for all the time. It was a german girl who was filming this piece, so the last and most important line is not on the video as she doesn't know the lyrics.
Anyways, what a great night!

Volgograd, Murmansk

Здравствуите!

As already half of my time has passed by, I thought that's a reason to show what I have done here so far and where I traveled to.

The guys from the students council always show us around Moscow on Weekends, which is always fun because almost everybody still has a hangover or is actually still drunk.

Just a random picture of Tomas' (on the left) and my room on a saturday evening, before going out.
Moscow Metro.
On my university: A memorial for the Second World War, which u can find on more or less every corner in Russia.

It was one of my first goals when I came to Russia to go to Volgograd, the former Stalingrad, in order to see museums and battlefields over there.

This big monument is on a hill in the city of Volgograd from were you can see the whole town. Because of that, a hard battle has been fought over there in order to get that strategic important place.

Again, Родина Мать.
We made a tour to the place were the last big battle of Stalingrad took place. Here, the 6th German Army was surrounded by the Russians (Kessel), which can be seen as the end of the battle for that city.

My second trip was Murmansk, in the very North of the country.

We also visited the Theater of the Northern Russian Fleet. Unfortunately, I didn't understand that much...

As I told you. U have those memorials for WWII everywhere.

As the sun in Murmansk never gets very high (as the city is very far in the north), u have an intersting light actuallly all the time. Great for photography!

And here I want to show something very special about Murmansk: There are a couple of Garage villages where men repair their cars, celebrate whenever a car has been repaired completely, have a barbecue (шашльик) and, of course, drink Vodka.

That's how one of those garages look like. A group of Russians invited us in to have dinner with them. That's what I call hospitality.
